Defect & Vehicles Involved

DEFECT INVOLVED

General Motors has decided that certain 1994-95 Chevrolet Caprice and Impala model vehicles may have been built with a defective accelerator pedal assembly which causes the vehicles to fail to conform to the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 124, "Accelerator Control Systems". Under some circumstances at low temperatures, there may be excessive friction in the accelerator pedal assembly. If there is excessive friction in the pedal assembly, in the event of a failure of a throttle return spring the engine speed may not return to idle as specified in FMVSS 124.

To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
