Defect and Vehicles Involved
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1994 Chevrolet Caprice model vehicles equipped with engine oil coolers (RPO KC4), and 5.7L (RPO LT1) or 4.3L (RPO L99) engines. The engine oil cooler inlet hose on these vehicles may have been installed too close to the steering gear. The hose may wear through if the slit in the protective sleeve on the hose faces and contacts the steering gear. This wear through could allow engine oil to leak onto the engine and could cause an engine compartment fire.To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers are to inspect the engine oil cooler inlet hose and, as necessary, reposition the hose to create the proper clearance and assure that the slit in the protective sleeve faces the proper direction. Also, if hose wear is evident, the hose will be replaced.
