Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

The throttle position sensor must provide closed throttle output voltage within a specified range, and then the ECM must "learn" this voltage to operate properly. If the sensor output is out-of-range, or if the sensor has been removed from the throttle body and re-installed or replaced, the adjustment and learn procedure must be performed

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Installation/Adjustment:

ADJUSTMENT
1. Install a scan tool to monitor TPS output voltage, or connect 3 jumper wires between sensor and harness connector and monitor voltage between terminals "B" and "A".
2. Turn ignition "ON".
3. Adjust sensor position so closed throttle voltage output is between 0.23 - 0.59 volt and tighten mounting screws to 2 Nm (18 in.lbs).

TPS LEARN PROCEDURE
The "learn" procedure requires use of a T-1 (Tech 1) or T-100 (CAMS) unit. The procedure here is described for of the Tech 1.

1. Ignition "OFF".
2. Connect Tech 1 with Mass Storage/Chassis cartridge.
3. Ignition "ON".
4. Follow menus to ABS/ASR features.
5. Select "F5: TPS LEARN".
6. Press the up arrow to begin learn procedure.
7. Wait for Tech 1 to indicate "COMPLETE".
8. Turn ignition "OFF".
9. Disconnect Tech 1.
Done.
