Dimmer Switch: Service and Repair

Fig. 22 Column Mounted Dimmer Siwtch Installation:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering column from vehicle.
3. Remove hex nut and washer head screw.
4. Remove horn pad ground wiring assembly from dimmer and ignition switch mounting stud. Remove wiring assembly from slot D of turn signal switch connector body, if necessary.
5. Remove cable bracket, then the dimmer switch assembly from actuator rod.
6. Disconnect wiring harness from dimmer switch.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Adjust dimmer switch as follows:
a. Install a 3/32 inch twist drill, to limit switch travel, Fig. 22.
b. Position switch on column and push against dimmer switch rod to remove all lash.
c. Remove drill bit and check for proper operation.
