Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Drive Belt: Service and Repair

SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT

A single (serpentine) belt is used to drive all engine accessories. The serpentine belt driven accessories are rigidly mounted with belt tension maintained by a spring-loaded tensioner assembly.

NOTE: Do not exceed torque of 40 Nm (30 lb. ft.) on tensioner center bolt when installing or removing belt. If the above conditions are not followed, parts of system damage could result.

NOTE: Care should be taken to avoid twisting or bending the tensioner when applying torque. Damage to belt tensioner may occur.

Remove

1. Coolant reservoir.
2. Rotate the tensioner (clockwise) with a 15 mm wrench and slide belt from generator pulley. Release tensioner and remove belt.

Install

1. Route belt, rotate the tensioner clockwise and slide belt onto generator pulley.
- Tensioner indicator mark, it should be within the nominal range.
2. Coolant reservoir.
