Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation
Gear Select (PRNDL) Switch:
PURPOSE
The Transaxle Range switch indicates to the Powertrain Control Module PCM) what gear the transaxle is in. This information is used for the Torque Converter Clutch TCC), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), and the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve operation.
Notice: Vehicle should not be driven with transaxle range switch disconnected, as idle quality and transaxle performance will he affected.
OPERATION
The input from the Transaxle Range Switch indicates to the PCM which gear the transaxle selector lever has selected. This information is used for ignition timing, EVAP canister purge and IAC valve operation.
