Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Loss of cam signal reference pulses will set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 18. If the cam signal is lost while the engine is running, the fuel injection system will shift to a time base fuel injection (backup fuel) mode based on crankshaft position sensor signal, and the engine will continue to run. The engine can be restarted and will run in the calculated fuel injection mode as long as the fault is present.
