Cylinder Head - Left Side

Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence:

1. Raise and support vehicle, then drain coolant into suitable container(s).
2. Remove three-way catalytic converter and gasket from exhaust manifold, then lower vehicle.
3. Remove intake manifold as outlined.
4. Disconnect secondary air injection pipe from check valve.
5. Disconnect coolant air bleed pipe bolt/screw from left cylinder head using a back up wrench on pipe fitting.
6. Remove ignition coil bolts/screws and coil assembly as follows:
a. Disconnect four-terminal PCM connector at ignition coil module.
b. Disconnect ignition coil wiring connectors, then coil harness.
c. Remove studs, then ignition coil. Do not wipe silicone grease from bottom of ignition coil assembly if it is to be reinstalled.
7. Remove left exhaust manifold as outlined.
8. Disconnect spark plug wire harness from clips, then from spark plugs.
9. Remove spark plugs.
10. Disconnect coolant temperature sensor.
11. Remove rocker arm cover bolts/screws, then cover.
12. Remove rocker arm nuts, rocker arms and pushrods.
13. Remove cylinder head bolts/screws, then cylinder head and gasket. Discard gasket.
14. Reverse procedure to install. Apply suitable sealer to cylinder head bolts and gradually tighten bolts to specifications, in sequence shown in Fig. 4.
