BPM Valve Pump Motor Fault:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When the pump motor relay is grounded by the EBCM, it closes and provides voltage to operate the pump. Once the motor circuit is energized, a "Pump ON" signal is sensed by the EBCM to verify pump operation.
DTC WILL SET WHEN
- Voltage is present at the pump motor without pump motor relay activation from the EBTCM.
- Voltage is NOT present at the pump motor within 40 milliseconds after the EBCM requests pump motor relay activation.
- The motor GND circuit is open.
- There is a pump motor malfunction.
ACTION TAKEN
The "ABS" lamp will be "ON." ABS is disabled.
DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks that Fusible Link "B" feeding the EBCM Motor Relay circuit is good.
2. Checks for an open in Pump Motor Ground CKT 1250.
3. Measures for appropriate voltage from the EBCM motor relay circuit, using the EBCM ground line to complete the circuit.
4. Checks EBCM connector terminals for good contact, i.e., not spread open, backed out of connector, corroded, etc.
5. Checks EBCM connector for good retention to EBCM when installed.
6. Checks for condition of EBCM to BPMV connector, and for presence of brake fluid.
7. Checks the integrity of the pump motor and pump motor circuitry internal to the BPMV.
8. Uses the Tech 1 to check for proper operation of the pump motor and associated circuitry.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
All tests using J 39700 Universal Breakout Box terminal "1" are using the terminal as ground. These tests assume that the ground CKT at terminal "1" is good.
It is very important that a thorough inspection of the wiring and connectors be performed. Failure to carefully and fully inspect wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis, causing part replacement with reappearance of the malfunction.
