Lubricant Level Check

Inspection Procedure

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Clean any dirt from around the differential fill plug.
3. Remove the fill plug from the differential.
4. Check that the differential fluid level is even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 6 mm (0.25 inch) below the opening.

5. Add new fluid if necessary.
^ If a small amount of fluid is needed, use synthetic axle lubricant GM P/N 12378261, or equivalent meeting GM specification 9986115.
^ If the differential fluid level is very low, use synthetic axle lubricant GM P/N 12378261, or equivalent meeting GM specification 9986115 and add enough limited-slip differential lubricant additive GM P/N 1052358, or equivalent to maintain the original ratio of 1.6 L (1.69 qt.) of axle lubricant to 118 mL (4.0 oz.) of limited-slip additive.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Install the fill plug to the differential.
^ Tighten the differential fill plug to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower the vehicle.
