Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the harness connector from the crankshaft position sensor by releasing the locking tab.




3. Remove the sensor mounting bolt.

IMPORTANT: Take care when handling the sensor. Damage to the sensor will affect the operation of the injection timing control system.




4. Remove the sensor from the engine.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Lubricate the new O-ring with engine oil.

IMPORTANT: Take care when handling the sensor. Damage to the sensor will affect the operation of the injection timing control system.

2. Install the sensor in the engine.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




3. Install the sensor mounting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the mounting bolt to 25 N.m (17 lb ft).




4. Install the sensor harness connector.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the PCM electrical harness is properly routed to avoid contact with the engine cover during installation.

5. Install the engine cover.
6. Connect the negative battery cables.
7. Perform the TDC Offset. Refer to PCM Replacement/Programming. This procedure must be done when a crankshaft position sensor is replaced. Programming and Relearning
