A Important Preliminary Checks

Before using the Symptom tables perform A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check and verify all of the following items:
^ The PCM and Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) are operating correctly. Refer to MIL operation in A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check.
^ There are no DTCs stored.
^ Scan tool data is within normal operating range, Refer to Scan Tool Data List. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
^ Verify the customer complaint.
^ Perform the Visual/Physical Check. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Locate the correct symptom in the list. Follow the procedures in the appropriate diagnostic table. If the problem can not be duplicated, or is determined to be intermittent refer to Intermittent Conditions. Intermittent Conditions
