Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Programming Transmitters

Perform this procedure when:
^ The RKE programming connector (BLK/WHT wire) is grounded (circuit 1455).
^ The Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) is replaced.
^ A keyless remote transmitter is replaced.
^ A second (up to a total of four) remote keyless entry transmitter is added.

IMPORTANT: If the vehicle has more than one remote keyless entry transmitter, all keyless entry transmitters have to be programmed during the same programming sequence. Otherwise, the keyless entry transmitters - that were not programmed will not work properly.

1. Open the rear compartment lid.
2. Pull the right side rear compartment trim for access. Refer to Compartment Side Trim Replacement RH Rear in Body Rear End.
3. Use a jumper wire with alligator clips to ground the RKE programming connector. The door locks will lock and unlock, indicating that the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) entered the keyless entry transmitter programming mode.
4. With the programming connector still grounded, program all of the keyless entry transmitters (one at a time):
^ Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry transmitter for 10 seconds.
^ The door locks will lock and unlock, indicating that the keyless entry transmitter has been programmed.
^ Repeat step 4 for each keyless entry transmitter to be programmed. Up to four keyless entry transmitters can be programmed.
5. Remove the jumper wire from the RKE programming connector terminal.
6. Verify the operation of the keyless entry transmitter(s).
