Cross-Member: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
3. Disconnect the brake lines from the rear suspension support.
4. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the suspension support.
5. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft from the rear stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement.
6. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft from the rear suspension support. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement.
Important: Support the rear suspension support with jack stands before removing the mounting bolts.
7. Remove the rear suspension support mounting bolts.
8. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods from the knuckle.
9. Lower the rear suspension support in order to gain access to the rear wheel spindle rod bolts.
10. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods from the rear suspension support.
11. Remove the rear suspension support.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the rear suspension support in place.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the rear wheel spindle rod-to-rear suspension support bolts and nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the rear wheel spindle rod-to-rear suspension support nuts to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the rear suspension support mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the rear suspension support mounting bolts to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.).
4. Position the rear wheel spindle rod to the knuckle. Install the retaining bolts and nuts to the knuckle.
Tighten
Tighten the spindle rod-to-knuckle retaining nut to 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the brake lines to the rear suspension support.
6. Install the parking brake cables and the tensioner.
7. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket and bolts to the rear suspension support. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement.
Important: Insert the bracket bolts facing rearward. Do not tighten the bolts at this time.
8. Install the stabilizer shaft-to-stabilizer shaft link nuts. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement.
Tighten
Tighten the shaft link nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
9. Connect the stabilizer shaft to the rear suspension support.
10. Install the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolt. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement.
Tighten
Tighten the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolts to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Adjust the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications (Rear) in Alignment.
