Parking Brake System: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the rear brake caliper bracket with the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear (Export).
4. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (Export).
5. Loosen the park brake cable equalizer nut.





6. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
7. Remove the park brake cable bracket. Refer to Park Brake Cable Mounting Bracket Replacement.
8. Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Domestic) or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Export).
9. Remove the park brake actuator.

Installation Procedure





1. Ensure that the park brake actuator lever (2) is correctly oriented in the park brake actuator (10).





2. Install the park brake actuator.
3. Install the rear wheel hub and bearing. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Domestic) or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Export).
4. Adjust the park brake shoe and lining. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Adjustment (Export).
5. Install the park brake cable bracket (9). Refer to Park Brake Cable Mounting Bracket Replacement.





6. Install the park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
7. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (Export).
8. Install the rear brake caliper bracket with the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear (Export).
9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.





10. Tighten the park brake cable equalizer nut until both park brake cable ends contact their respective park brake actuator levers.
11. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment.
12. Lower the vehicle.
