Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the air cleaner cover and duct assembly.
2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair

IMPORTANT: Cap or tape the open suction lines and accumulator to prevent contamination of the refrigerant system.

3. Disconnect the evaporator suction line from the accumulator. Discard the O-ring seal and cap or tape the open line and accumulator.




4. Disconnect the compressor suction line from the accumulator. Discard the O-ring seal and cap or tape the open line and the accumulator.




5. Remove the retaining strap mounting bolt (1).
6. Remove the accumulator and mounting strap from the vehicle.




7. Remove the retaining strap pinch bolt and remove retaining strap from the accumulator.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the accumulator into the retaining strap.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the retaining strap pinch bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5.5 N.m (49 lb in).

3. Install the accumulator and retaining strap assembly into the vehicle.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




4. Install the retaining strap mounting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5.5 N.m (49 lb in).

5. Remove the cap or tape from the suction lines.
6. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surfaces of suction lines and accumulator.
7. Lightly coat the new O-ring seals with the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT allow any of the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil on the new O-ring seals to enter the refrigerant system.




8. Carefully slide the new O-ring seal (1) onto the evaporator suction line until seated.




9. Carefully slide the new O-ring seal (1) onto the compressor suction line until seated.
Allow a light coating of the refrigerant oil to remain on the suction line fitting in the area indicated (2) ONLY.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




10. Connect the suction lines to the accumulator.

Tighten
^ Tighten the evaporator suction line fitting to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
^ Tighten the compressor suction line bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

11. Evacuate and charge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
12. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing. Service and Repair
13. Install the air cleaner cover and duct assembly.
