Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
Removal ProcedureCaution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the upper radiator hose (1) from the thermostat housing (2).
4. Remove the four fen nuts (1).
5. Remove the four radiator shroud fasteners.
Important: Do not damage the radiator when removing the fan.
6. Lean the shroud toward the engine.
7. Detach the fan from the pulley hub and remove the shroud and fan together.
8. Remove the air conditioner compressor drive belt (if equipped).
9. Loosen the generator adjustment bolt (1).
10. Remove the generator drive belt.
11. Remove the coolant pump pulley.
12. Remove the five crankshaft timing pulley bolts (3) and the crankshaft timing pulley (1) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the crankshaft timing pulley (1). Fit the keyway on the pulley to the key on the crankshaft timing sprocket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Secure the five crankshaft timing pulley bolts (3) and/or the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt (2) (if removed).
- Tighten the crankshaft timing pulley bolts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt to 130 Nm (96 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the coolant pump pulley on to the coolant pump.
4. Install the generator drive belt (1).
Important: Do not damage the radiator when installing the fan and fan shroud.
5. Install the fan and the fan shroud together.
6. Install the four radiator shroud fasteners.
7. Install the four fen nuts (1).
Tighten the fan nuts to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.).
8. Adjust the generator drive belt tension.
9. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing (1).
10. Refill the cooling system as necessary.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
