Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the steering linkage skid plate. Refer to Skid Plate Replacement - Steering Linkage in Body and Frame.
3. Support the radiator core support with jacks.
4. Remove the 2 bolts in order to separate the radiator core support from the crossmember.
5. Support both front lower control arms (2) with jacks.
6. Remove the following components in order to separate both front lower control arms from the crossmember:
- The 2 bolts (1)
- The 2 nuts
- The 2 washers





7. Support the steering gear (3) with jacks.
8. Remove the 4 bolts (1) and the 4 nuts in order to separate the steering gear clamps from the crossmember.





9. Support the crossmember (1) with a jack.
10. Remove the 8 bolts (3,4,6,7,8,9,11) and the crossmember from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Raise and support the crossmember (1) with a jack.

Important: Do NOT tighten the nuts and bolts completely. The weight of the vehicle must be on the wheels and tires before tightening the nuts and bolts.

2. Secure the crossmember with the 8 bolts (3,4,6,7,8,9,11).
3. Remove the jack from the crossmember.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Secure the steering gear clamps to the crossmember with the 4 bolts (1) and the 4 nuts.

- Tighten the nuts and bolts to 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).

5. Remove the jacks from the steering gear.





Important: Do NOT tighten the nuts and bolts completely. The weight of the vehicle must be on the wheels and tires before tightening the nuts and bolts.

6. Install the following components to the front lower control arms:
- The 2 bolts (1)
- The 2 nuts
- The 2 washers
7. Remove the jacks from the front lower control arms.
8. Secure the radiator core support to the crossmember with the 2 bolts.

- Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).

9. Remove the jacks from the radiator core support.
10. Lower the vehicle.





11. With the weight of the vehicle on the tires and wheels, tighten the 8 crossmember bolts (3,4,6,7,8,9,11).

- Tighten the bolts to 94 Nm (68 ft. lbs.).





12. Tighten the front lower control arm nuts and bolts (1).

- Tighten the nuts and bolts to 85 Nm (61.5 ft. lbs.).

13. Install the steering linkage skid plate. Refer to Skid Plate Replacement - Steering Linkage in Body and Frame.
14. Measure the wheel alignment.
15. Adjust the front toe, if necessary.
