Brake Caliper Replacement

Brake Caliper Replacement
Removal Procedure

Caution: Avoid taking the following actions when you service wheel brake parts:
^ Do not grind brake linings.
^ Do not sand brake linings.
^ Do not clean wheel brake parts with a dry brush or with compressed air.

Some models or aftermarket brake parts may contain asbestos fibers, which can become airborne in dust. Breathing dust with asbestos fibers may cause serious bodily harm. Use a water-dampened cloth in order to remove any dust on brake parts. Equipment is available commercially in order to perform this washing function. These wet methods prevent fibers from becoming airborne.

Caution: Brake fluid may irritate eyes and skin. In case of contact, take the following actions:
^ Eye contact-rinse thoroughly with water.
^ Skin contact-wash with soap and water.
^ If ingested-consult a physician immediately.

Notice: Brake fluid will damage electrical connections and painted surfaces. Use shop cloths, suitable containers, and fender covers to prevent brake fluid from contacting these areas. Always re-seal and wipe off brake fluid containers to prevent spills.

1. Remove two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir using a siphon or the equivalent.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
4. Place a container below the brake hose in order to catch escaping brake fluid.
5. Remove the front brake hose fitting and the 2 washers from the caliper.

6. Remove the 2 caliper pin bolts (2).
7. Remove the caliper (1) from the caliper bracket.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important: Ensure the boots fit into the grooves securely.

1. Install the caliper (1) to the caliper bracket. Secure with 2 caliper pin bolts.
Tighten the caliper pin bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
2. Install the brake hose to the caliper.
3. Install the 2 washers and the brake hose fitting.
Tighten the fitting to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).
4. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Fill the master cylinder reservoir.

Caution: If any brake component is repaired or replaced such that air is allowed to enter the brake system, the entire bleeding procedure MUST be followed. Unapproved or partial bleed procedures can allow air to remain in the brake system. This could result in reduced abrading performance and possible personal injury.

Notice: If any brake component is repaired or replaced such that air is allowed to enter the brake system, the entire bleeding procedure must be followed.

7. Bleed the brake system.
