Tie Rod: Service and Repair

Rack and Pinion Inner Tie Rod Replacement - On Vehicle





1. Raise and support the vehicle, Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer.
3. Remove the boot (3). Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement - On Vehicle.





4. Unstake the lock washer (2).
5. Remove the inner tie rod (1) from the rack (3).

Installation Procedure





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install a new lock washer (2) and inner tie rod (1) to the rack.

- Tighten the inner tie rod to 85 Nm (61.5 ft. lbs.).

2. Stake the lock washer at the flat spots on the inner tie rod.





3. Install the boot (3). Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement - On Vehicle.
4. Install the outer tie rod. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer.
5. Lower the vehicle.
