Limited Slip Differential Disassemble

- J 45709 Limited Slip Differential Overhaul Kit Dana 248





1. Using a brass drift, remove the pinion shaft roll pin.
2. Remove the pinion shaft.





3. Install the J 45709-4 into a soft jawed vise.
4. Install the differential case assembly on to the J 45709-4.





5. Install the J 45709-2 (1) and the J 45703-3 (2) as shown.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Compress the side gear clutch packs using the J-45709-2 (1) against the J-44509-2 (2)
^ Tighten the J 45709-2 (1) to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).





7. Remove the pinion gear thrust washers.





8. Use the J 45709-1 (1) to rotate the differential.
9. Loosen the J 45709-2 (3) until the differential will rotate.
10. Rotate the differential case.





11. Remove the pinion gears.
12. Remove the J 45709-2 (1).
13. Remove the J 45709-3 (3).
14. Remove the side gears.

Important: Before removing the clutch packs, note their position and arrangement.

15. Remove the upper clutch pack.
16. Remove the lower clutch pack.
