Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.
Important: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
3. Open the hood
4. Reposition powertrain control module (PCM) water boot aside.
5. Remove PCM from bracket.
6. Disconnect electrical from PCM and remove PCM.
Installation Procedure
1. Install electrical connections to PCM.
Tighten bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the PCM to the bracket.
3. Position PCM water boot back into place.
4. Close the hood.
5. Connect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
6. If the PCM was replaced, the replacement PCM must be programmed. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS). Programming and Relearning
