Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair




Catalytic Converter Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution:
Refer to Exhaust Service Caution Service Precautions in Cautions and Notices.

Caution:
Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

Notice:
Refer to Flex Decoupler Notice Flex Decoupler Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the spark plug cover.





3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and the heat shield.





4. Remove the catalytic converter upper flange nuts.





5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair in General Information.

6. Remove the splash guard. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair in Frame and Underbody.

7. Remove the catalytic converter lower flange nuts.





8. Remove the front exhaust pipe mounting bracket bolts and bracket.

9. Remove the catalytic converter.

Installation Procedure





Notice:
Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Fit the catalytic converter onto the connecting pipe, raise the front exhaust pipe, and install the front exhaust pipe mounting bracket nuts and bracket.

Tighten the connecting pipe mounting bracket nuts to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).





2. Install the catalytic converter lower flange nuts.

Tighten the catalytic converter-to-connecting pipe nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).





3. Install the splash guard. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair in Frame and Underbody.

4. Lower the vehicle.

5. Install the catalytic converter upper flange bolts.

Tighten the catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).





6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and heat shield bolts.

Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 3 Nm (27 lb ft).





7. Install the exhaust cover mounting bolts and the engine cover.

8. Connect the negative battery cable.
