Bearings and Spacers Cleaning and Inspection
1. Notice: Do not allow the bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. Spinning the bearings may damage the race and the rollers.
Mark or tag the bearings in order to ensure they are properly installed in the same location.
2. Clean all the bearing parts in a suitable solvent and air dry.
3. Inspect the bearings and journals for roughness and unusual wear or damage.
4. Inspect the mainshaft bearing bushings for wear.
5. Inspect the mainshaft speed gear bearings for wear.
6. Inspect the bearing race in the input shaft for wear.
7. Inspect the shift rail bearings for wear or missing balls.
8. Inspect the thrust washers and spacer washers for wear or damage,
9. Replace the parts that show signs of excessive wear.
10. Do not file surfaces which have been hardened and precision ground.
11. Replace worn or damaged bearings.
12. Replace both the bearing race and the bearing when only one part is damaged.
13. Replace the bearing bushing, bearing, and speed gear if one part is worn or failed.
14. Lubricate the bearings with transmission fluid before assembly.
