Body/Frame - Noise from Underbody Over Bumps

Subject: Squeak or Creak Noise from Underbody over Bumps (Repair or Replace Body Cables)

Models:
1999-2011 Chevrolet Silverado
1999-2011 GMC Sierra

Regular Cab Models Only and Built Prior to March 12, 2011

This bulletin is being revised to update the Correction section. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 11-08-61-002B (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a squeak and/or creak type noise coming from the vehicle underbody while driving over uneven surfaces.

Cause





This condition may be caused by the body mounting cable(s). These cables are located at the left and right rear body to frame mounts.

Correction For Model Years 2007-2011





A revised part with a nylon sleeve added to the shoulder bolt has been made available to correct this condition.

Replace the left and right body mount cables with the revised parts listed below. Refer to Body Cable Replacement in SI for the replacement procedure.

Correction For Model Years 1999-2007 (Classic)

Remove the cable from the vehicle and lubricate the cable eyelets and bolt shoulders with GM Super Lube P/N 12346241 (in Canada, 10953474). Reinstall and tighten the bolts.

Tighten

- Tighten the body cable body side bolt to 100 Nm (73 lb ft).

- Tighten the body cable frame side bolt to 85 Nm (62 lb ft).
