Park/Neutral Position Switch Installation

Installing A Re-Used PNP Switch

^ Tools Required
- J 41364-A Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch Aligner

1. Make sure the manual shift shaft is in the Neutral (N) position as follows:
^ Place a wrench on the manual shift shaft flats and rotate the shaft to the furthest clockwise position.
^ Rotate the manual shift shaft counterclockwise 2 detents.

2. Be sure that the J 41364-A (2) is in the proper position on the park/neutral position (PNP) switch (1).

3. Align the PNP switch (1) with the transmission case so that the J 41364-A is facing outward.
4. While maintaining the correct PNP switch-to-manual-shift-shaft alignment, slide the PNP switch (1) over the manual shift shaft (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. While holding J 41364-A in engagement with the PNP switch, install 2 bolts (3) so that the PNP switch may be rotated with some effort.
^ Tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).

6. Remove J 41364-A.

7. Install the splash shield (1), concave side toward the PNP switch (3), over the manual shift shaft (2).

Notice:
^ DO NOT drive the selector lever onto the selector shaft.
^ DO NOT use an impact wrench in order to tighten the selector lever nut. Hold the lever with a wrench while tightening the nut.
^ Failure to follow these instructions may result in transmission damage.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

8. Install the shift lever (2), and then install the shift lever nut (3) by hand, on the end of manual shift shaft (4).
9. Using a wrench (1) to keep the shift lever from rotating, tighten the shift lever nut (3).
^ Tighten the nut to 24 Nm (18 lb ft).
10. Reconnect the shift selector linkage/cable to the shift lever (2).
11. Connect the external wiring harness to the PNP switch.

Installing A New PNP Switch

1. Make sure the manual shift shaft is in the Neutral (N) position as follows:
^ Place a wrench on the manual shift shaft flats and rotate the shaft to the furthest clockwise position.
^ Rotate the manual shift shaft counterclockwise 2 detents.

2. While maintaining the correct PNP switch-to-manual-shift-shaft alignment, slide the new PNP switch over the manual shift shaft.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the 2 bolts (6) retaining the PNP switch to the transmission.
^ Tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).

Notice:
^ DO NOT drive the selector lever onto the selector shaft.
^ DO NOT use an impact wrench in order to tighten the selector lever nut. Hold the lever with a wrench while tightening the nut.
^ Failure to follow these instructions may result in transmission damage.

4. Install the shift lever (2), and then install the shift lever nut (3) by hand, on the end of manual shift shaft (4).
5. Using a wrench (1) to keep the shift lever from rotating, tighten the shift lever nut (3).
^ Tighten the nut to 24 Nm (18 lb ft).

6. Reconnect the shift selector linkage/cable to the shift lever (2).
7. Connect the external wiring harness to the PNP switch.
