12. Torque Converter Housing/Pump Assembly Removal

Torque Converter Housing/Pump Assembly Removal

Notice: The bolts used to install the torque converter housing and the low and reverse clutch housing to the transmission case are similar in size and color. The low and reverse clutch housing bolts are, however, shorter than the torque converter housing bolts. Installing torque converter housing bolts into the low and reverse clutch housing may damage the transmission case. To help avoid torque converter housing bolts from being installed into the low and reverse clutch housing and vice versa, store the bolts separately. These bolts must be installed into their correct locations to help avoid transmission case damage.

1. Remove 18 bolts (1), one bolt (2), and one bolt (3).

Caution: The torque converter housing/oil pump cover module dry weights are approximately 27 kg (60 lb). To help avoid personal injury and/or property damage:
^ Use caution when installing, removing, or moving the converter housing/oil pump cover module.
^ Get help when lifting the converter housing/oil pump cover module.
^ Assistance from a hoist or another person may be required.
^ Make sure lifting equipment can properly support the converter housing/oil pump cover module.

2. Attach a sling to the converter housing (1).
3. Attach a hoist to the sling.
4. Remove the converter housing/oil pump cover assembly (1) from the transmission case (4) and the turbine shaft (2).
5. Place the converter housing/oil pump cover assembly on the work table.
6. Remove the sling.
7. Remove and discard the main housing/separator plate gasket (3).
