Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Raise and suitably the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Clean any dirt from around the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the VSS.




4. Remove the bolt retaining the VSS to the rear differential case.
5. Remove the VSS from the differential case.

Installation Procedure




1. Lubricate the O-ring seal of the VSS with clean engine oil.
2. Install the VSS into the hole on the axle case.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the VSS retaining bolt the differential.

Tighten the vehicle speed sensor retaining bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




4. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
5. Lower the vehicle.
