Shift Cable: Service and Repair




Floor Shift Control Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the shift cable retaining nut near the exhaust heat shield.




3. Remove the shift cable from the transmission cable bracket.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Disconnect the shift cable from the park/neutral position switch.
6. Remove the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).




7. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift control assembly.
8. Position the driver side front carpet aside.




9. Separate the grommet from the floor pan.
10. Remove the cable from the vehicle by pulling the cable through the driver floor opening.

Installation Procedure

1. Insert the cable through the driver floor opening.




2. Install the grommet flush with the floor opening.
3. Install the driver side front carpet.




4. Connect the shift cable to the shift control assembly.
5. Install the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).




6. Connect the shift cable to the park/neutral position switch.
7. Connect the shift cable to the transmission cable bracket.
8. Raise the vehicle.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

9. Install the shift cable retaining nut near the exhaust heat shield.

Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Check the operation of the shift control cable for proper adjustment through all the gear ranges. If necessary refer to Shift Control Cable Adjustment (Adjustments).
