Main Shaft and Counter Gear Shaft Axial Play Measurement




1. Install the axial bearing.




2. Install the input shaft thrust bearing.




3. Install the input shaft synchronizer ring.




4. Install the input shaft.




5. Install the primary shaft arrangement.




6. Inspect the axial play of the reverse gear.

0.0101-0.0355 cm (0.004-0.014 in)




7. Inspect the axial play of the 1st speed gear.

0.0203-0.0406 cm (0.008-0.016 in)




8. Inspect the axial play of the 2nd speed gear.

0.0101-0.0355 cm (0.004-0.014 in)




9. Inspect the axial play of the 3rd speed gear. There are 4 retainer thicknesses to select from.

10. Install the gear train assembly.




11. Once the primary shaft assembly axial plays have been inspected, install the primary shaft assembly in the casing.




12. Install the transmission casing.




13. Using a 10 mm wrench, install the bolts that secure the casing.




14. Install the bearing cone.




15. Install the gear train taper bearing cup.




16. Using retainer pliers, install the retainer that secures the gear train bearing cup.




17. Inspect the axial play of the gear train.

0.0025-0.0127 cm (0.001-0.005 in)




18. Install the drive wheel.




19. Install the drag ball.




20. Install the gear train 5th gear synchronizer assembly and inspect the axial play. The retainer is optional.

0.0127-0.0533 cm (0.005-0.021 in)




21. Clean the surface and apply sealant.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

22. Tighten the 7 screws to 16-27 Nm (12-20 lb ft).
