P06AF

DTC P06AF

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC P06AF
- Torque Management System - Forced Engine Shutdown

Circuit/System Description

This diagnostic applies to communication integrity conditions between the engine control module (ECM) and the hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM). The HPCM monitors a state of health message that the ECM transmits to verify the ECM is functioning properly.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition voltage is 8-18V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The HPCM does not detect a valid state of health message from the ECM.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTC P06AF is a Type A DTC.
* The HPCM commands the battery energy control module (BECM) to open the high voltage contactor relays.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P06AF is a Type A DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Clear the DTC information.
2. Ignition OFF for 1 minute.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Retest for DTC P06AF, ECM DTC P0606, or any communication DTCs.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition ON, inspect for ECM DTC P0606, ECM DTC P0A1D, or any U-code communication DTCs.

If the specified DTCs are set, repair them first. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle (Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle).

2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the ECM connector X3 and the PIM connector X1.
3. Test for less than 1 ohm resistance on the GMLAN serial data circuits between the ECM and the PIM.

If greater than the specified range, repair the GMLAN serial data circuit for an open/high resistance condition.
If within the specified range, inspect the ECM and PIM connectors for proper terminal contact. Repair as necessary.

4. Ensure the ECM contains the latest software version. Program as necessary.
5. Ignition ON, inspect for ECM DTC P0606 or any U-code communication DTCs.

If the specified DTCs are set, repair them first. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle (Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle).
If only P06AF has reset, replace the ECM and continue with diagnosis.

6. Ensure the PIM contains the latest software version. Program as necessary.

If only P06AF has reset, replace the PIM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
