Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair




Parking Brake Shoe Replacement

Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning (Brake Dust Warning).





1. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56))Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J57) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J57)).
2. Remove the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (Rear Suspension).
3. Rotate the parking brake adjusting nut until all park brake shoe adjustment has been removed.
4. Remove the parking brake shoe retaining spring.




5. Remove the park brake shoe assembly by grasping the shoe and spreading slightly while pulling the shoe from the actuator assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the park brake shoe assembly by grasping the shoe and spreading slightly while pulling the shoe over the actuator assembly.




2. Install the parking brake shoe retaining spring.
3. Adjust the parking brake shoe-to-drum clearance. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (Adjustments).
4. Install the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (Rear Suspension).
5. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56))Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J57) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J57)).
