Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the turbocharger upper heat shield bolts and shield.




2. Loosen the turbocharger exhaust pipe to turbocharger clamp bolt (1).

Note: Be careful not to hit the exhaust temperature sensor against anything while removing.

3. Remove the exhaust temperature sensor. Refer to Exhaust Temperature Sensor Replacement - Position 1 (Exhaust Temperature Sensor Replacement - Position 1).
4. Remove the indirect fuel injector. Refer to Indirect Fuel Injector Replacement (Indirect Fuel Injector Replacement).
5. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement).
6. Remove the catalytic converter. 7. Remove the turbocharger exhaust pipe to bracket bolt (1).




8. Remove the turbocharger exhaust pipe (1).
9. If replacing the turbocharger exhaust pipe, transfer the exhaust heat shield.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the turbocharger exhaust pipe (1) into the turbocharger and position the pipe onto the exhaust manifold bracket.




2. Loosely install the turbocharger exhaust pipe to bracket bolt (1).





Note: Prior to tightening the turbocharger exhaust clamp, ensure that the turbocharger exhaust pipe is inserted into the clamp.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Tighten the turbocharger exhaust pipe to turbocharger clamp bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

4. Install the indirect fuel injector. Refer to Indirect Fuel Injector Replacement (Indirect Fuel Injector Replacement).
5. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (Gen IV Engines with Exhaust Clamp) (Catalytic Converter Replacement (Gen IV Engines with Exhaust Clamp))Catalytic Converter Replacement (LGH /LML) (Catalytic Converter Replacement (LGH /LML))Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96 with E63) (Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96 with E63))Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96 with ZW9) (Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96 with ZW9))Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96 with Exhaust Flange) (Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96 with Exhaust Flange)).




6. Tighten the turbocharger exhaust pipe to bracket bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 34 Nm (25 lb ft).




7. Install the turbocharger upper heat shield and bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

8. Install the exhaust temperature sensor. Refer to Exhaust Temperature Sensor Replacement - Position 1 (Exhaust Temperature Sensor Replacement - Position 1).
9. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement).
10. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
