Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Cleaning and Inspection

Cleaning Procedure

1. Clean the automatic transmission flex plate in solvent.

Warning:
Refer to Safety Glasses and Compressed Air Warning Safety Glasses and Compressed Air Warning.


2. Dry the automatic transmission flex plate with compressed air.

Inspection Procedure





Note:
Do not repair any stress fractures on the automatic transmission flex plate (2) or the ring rear (6). If any of the following conditions are found replace the automatic transmission flex plate (2).

1. Inspect the automatic transmission flex plate (2) for the following conditions:

* Stress fractures around the automatic transmission flex plate to engine crankshaft retaining bolt holes (4).

* Stress fractures on or around the automatic transmission flex plate to ring gear welds.

* Stress fractures between the automatic transmission flex plate pressed holes (3).

* Elongation of the automatic transmission flex plate to torque converter retaining bolt holes (5).

* Elongation of the automatic transmission flex plate to engine crankshaft retaining bolt holes (1).

* Damaged or missing ring gear teeth (6).

2. Replace the automatic transmission flex plate (2) as necessary.
