Front Lower Control Front Arm Replacement

J 42188 - Ball Joint Separator
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools Front Suspension.
Removal Procedure
Note: If servicing the steering knuckle, it is NOT necessary to completely remove the front lower control arm from the vehicle. Separate the front lower control arm from the steering knuckle.
1. Raise and Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
3. Remove the front lower control arm front nut (1) and the front bolt (2).
4. Loosen, but DO NOT remove the front lower control arm rear nut (1).
5. Using the J 42188 - separator(3), separate the front lower control arm from the steering knuckle (1).
6. Remove the front lower control rear nut (1) and the front lower control arm (2) from the frame and the steering knuckle.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the front lower control arm (2) in the frame and the steering knuckle.
2. Install the front lower control arm front bolt (2) and the front nut (1).
3. Install the front lower control arm rear nut (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
4. Using a torque angle meter, tighten the front lower control arm rear nut (1) to:
* First Pass: 60 Nm (44 lb ft)
* Final Pass: plus 120 degrees
5. Using a torque angle meter, tighten the front lower control arm nut (1) to:
* First Pass: 60 Nm (44 lb ft)
* First Pass: loosen 4 degrees
* First Pass: tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft)
* Final Pass: plus 120 degrees
6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
7. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
8. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment, if needed. Refer to Front Caster and Camber Adjustment Front Caster and Camber Adjustment.
