Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Replacement

Special Tools

EN-46106 - Flywheel Holding Tool

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools Special Tools.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement Transmission Replacement.





2. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement Service and Repair

3. Install the EN 46106 - Holding Tool through the starter mounting hole.





4. Remove the flex plate bolts (1) and discard.

5. Remove the flex plate (2).

6. Clean and inspect the flex plate. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection 53. Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection. If the flex plate teeth are damaged, inspect the starter for proper operation. Replace the starter if you find excessive wear or damage to the starter drive. Refer to Starter Replacement Service and Repair.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the flex plate (2) to the crankshaft.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install NEW flex plate bolts (1) and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft) plus and additional 45 degrees.





3. Remove the EN 46106 - Holding Tool.

4. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement Service and Repair

5. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement Transmission Replacement.
