DTC Descriptor
DTC B0098 01
- Passenger Air Bag Disable Switch Circuit Short to Battery or Open
DTC B0098 02
- Passenger Air Bag Disable Switch Circuit Short to Ground
DTC B0098 08
- Passenger Air Bag Disable Switch Circuit Signal Invalid
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The inflatable restraint I/P module disable switch enables or disables the passenger instrument panel air bag. When the ignition is turned ON, the inflatable restraint I/P module disable switch, based on the position of the switch ON or OFF, will be active to the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). The SDM will communicate to the passenger instrument panel air bag indicator to illuminate the appropriate the ON/OFF indicator as well as enable or disable the deployment of the passenger instrument panel air bag. If a malfunction is detected, a DTC will be stored.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition 1 voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
B0098 01, B0098 02, B0098 08
The SDM detects the I/P module disable switch control signal circuit active or inactive for 500 milliseconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The SDM requests the IPC to illuminate the AIRBAG indicator.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Testing
Important: When removing the connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion to the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector:
* Inflatable restraint I/P module disable switch
* SDM
* Inflatable restraint I/P module wiring harness connector
* SDM wiring harness connector
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the inflatable restraint I/P module disable switch.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the I/P module disable switch signal control circuit terminal D and ground.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SDM.
3. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the I/P module disable switch ground circuit terminal A and B+.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SDM.
4. If all circuits test normal, replace the inflatable restraint I/P module disable switch.
