Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The driver seatback DVD display contains the infrared transmitter for the wireless headphones. The audio that is sent over the DVD audio signal circuits is a varying AC voltage. The transmitter processes the signal and transmits the audio signals to the headphones. If the display is in the closed position, the infrared signals will not be available for the operation of the wireless headphones and the remote control.

Circuit/System Verification

Note: Test or replace the headphone batteries before performing the circuit/system verification.

1. Ignition ON, radio ON, DVD playing.

2. Verify that the Rear Seat Entertainment System audio/video operates.

If the Rear Seat Entertainment System is inoperative.
Refer to Video Entertainment System Malfunction Video Entertainment System Malfunction.

If the Rear Seat Entertainment System operates.

3. Turn ON the wireless headphones.

4. Verify the power indicator lamp on the wireless headphone illuminates.

If the power indicator lamp does not illuminate.
Replace the wireless headphones.

If the power indicator lamp illuminates.

5. Ignition ON, radio ON, DVD playing.

6. Verify that clear audio is heard from each headphone.

If audio is heard from some, but not all, headphones.
Replace the inoperative headphone.

If audio is not heard from any headphones, or the audio heard is not clear.
Refer to Circuit/System Testing

If clear audio is heard from all headphones.

7. All OK.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down

2. Disconnect the harness connector at the P22E driver seatback video display.

3. Test for less than 25 ohms between the audio signal (-) circuit terminal 5 and ground.

If 25 ohms or greater

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 connector at the A11 radio.

2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the A11 radio.

If less than 25 ohms

4. Ignition ON, radio ON, DVD playing with audio present.

5. Test for a varying voltage from 10 mV-250 mV AC between the audio signal (+) circuits listed below and ground:

* terminal 6

* terminal 7

If not between 10 mV-250 mV AC and/or not varying

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the A11 radio.

2. Ignition ON.

3. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.

If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V

4. Ignition OFF.

5. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance

6. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the A11 radio.

If varying from 10 mV-250 mV AC

6. Test or replace the P22E driver seatback video display.
