Engine Front Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the air cleaner assembly (1). Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair.




2. Remove the drive belt (1). Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Service and Repair.

3. Remove the wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement (Left Side) Service and RepairFront Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement (Right Side) Service and Repair.




4. Disconnect and reposition the vacuum booster rear pipe (2). Refer to Power Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe Replacement (2.0L, 2.4L) Power Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe ReplacementPower Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe Replacement (2.5L) Power Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe Replacement




5. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.




6. Remove the engine front cover bolts.




7. Remove the engine front cover to water pump bolt.

8. Remove the engine front cover.




9. Remove and discard the engine front cover gasket.

Installation Procedure




1. Install a NEW engine front cover gasket to the dowel pins.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the engine front cover and install the water pump bolt and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




3. Install the engine front cover bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




4. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.




5. Reposition and connect the vacuum booster rear pipe (2). Refer to Power Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe Replacement (2.0L, 2.4L) Power Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe ReplacementPower Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe Replacement (2.5L) Power Brake Booster Vacuum Rear Pipe Replacement.

6. Install the wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement (Left Side) Service and RepairFront Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement (Right Side) Service and Repair.




7. Install the drive belt (1). Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Service and Repair.




8. Install the air cleaner assembly (1). Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair.
