Grouping of RPO Codes By Family

DESCRIPTION
Although the Regular Production Option (RPO) numbering scheme that General Motors uses is hard to follow, knowledge of grouping by family will help. Below are basic groupings that General Motors uses in the RPO numbering scheme.

Taking a look at the sample RPO label, in the accompanying image, will lend insight into how the RPO labeling works and how useful it can be. Lets say, for example, that you are replacing the rear axle ring gear and the alternator on a vehicle. The parts supplier wants to know the alternator amperage and the axle ratio. If the original parts are still on the vehicle, the RPO can be used to provide an alternate way of identifying the part. The RPOs on the label would show HC7 and K77. A lookup on the Alldata system would reveal the following information:

HC7 - AXLE REAR, 5.13 RATIO, 7500 LBS, SINGLE SPEED
K77 - GENERATOR, 56 AMP
