Warner 83 mm 4 Speed
1. Position transmission in 2nd gear, then remove side cover, gasket and both shift forks.
2. Remove reverse shifter lock pin, pull shifter shaft outward, disengaging lever from reverse gear.
3. Remove extension housing bolts and tap housing with a mallet to loosen, then pull extension housing rearward until idler shaft clears idler gear. Turn housing to left thereby freeing reverse shift fork from collar and remove housing.
4. Remove snap ring, then slide speedometer gear from mainshaft, remove second speedometer gear snap ring.
5. Remove reverse gear from mainshaft, then slide rear reverse idler gear from rear bearing retainer.
6. Remove lock bolt from rear bearing retainer and drive locating pin from bearing retainer into case.
7. Rotate rear bearing retainer counterclockwise, providing access to rear of countershaft.
8. From front of case, using a dummy shaft, tap countershaft and key out the rear of case.
9. Using a mallet, tap rear bearing retainer rearward, remove mainshaft through rear of transmission.
10. Remove bearing rollers and washer from main drive gear bore.
11. Remove front reverse idler gear and thrust washer from case.
12. Remove fourth gear synchronizing ring from main drive gear.
13. Remove main drive gear bearing retainer from case, remove snap ring and washer from main drive gear, then press gear from bearing.
14. Tap drive gear bearing from case, remove countergear assembly and 2 washers, drive locating pin from case.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove countershaft and main gear assemblies if only main drive gear bearing is to be replaced. This is accomplished by using tools J22912 and J-8433-1.
