Side Cover

DISASSEMBLE
1. Remove forks from shifter shafts.

NOTE: Forks are identical and are interchangeable.

2. Slowly push shifter shafts into side cover until detent balls fall from cover, then remove shifter shafts.

NOTE: The 3-4 shifter shaft has a detent.

3. Remove interlock sleeve, poppet spring and lock pin.

4. Replace shifter shaft seals if necessary.


ASSEMBLE

NOTE: When assembling transmission always use new gaskets, oil seals and snap rings.

1. Install seals in shifter shaft bores, if removed.

2. Install 3-4 shifter shaft in bore, position in neutral, then install detent ball, interlock sleeve, poppet spring and lock pin.

3. Position detent ball in other end of interlock sleeve, depress ball and install 1-2 shifter shaft.

4. Position 1-2 shifter shaft in 2nd gear and install shift forks.
