On all except 1988-90 models with diesel engine, or 1989-90 models with throttle body injection, install switch as shown in Fig. 5. After installing switch, press switch plunger as far forward as possible. This switch will then adjust itself the first time the accelerator pedal is pushed to the floor.
On 1988-90 models with diesel engines, the detent downshift switch is part of the vacuum regulator valve.
On 1989-90 models with throttle body injection, the detent downshift is controlled by the ECM.
