Removal and Installation



1. On 4 speed models with internal shift linkage, proceed as follows:
a. Remove shift lever boot retaining screws, then slide boot up lever.
b. Depress collar securing shift lever and rotate collar counterclockwise, then remove shift lever. On some models it may be necessary to remove center console and/or floor mat, and the transmission access panel in vehicle floor in order to gain clearance for transmission removal.
2. On all models, raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission lubricant.
3. Disconnect speedometer cable.
4. On models with external shift linkage, disconnect shift levers and linkage from transmission, noting position for installation.
5. Disconnect parking brake lever and controls, if necessary, then the back-up light switch wiring.
6. Disconnect propeller shaft from transmission, then the exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds, if necessary.
7. Support transmission with a suitable jack.
8. Remove any lines or brackets that will interfere with transmission removal.
9. Remove transmission mount and rear crossmember, if applicable.
10. Remove transmission to clutch housing attaching bolts.
11. Slide transmission rearward, lower and remove from vehicle.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
