1. Install countergear assembly (227) into case. Do not install bearings at this time.
2. Install reverse idler gear (230) and shaft into case. Ensure gear teeth are facing forward, slot in shaft faces down and that shaft is flush with case.
3. Install mainshaft (250) into case. Ensure rear of mainshaft is through rear bearing hole. Position bearing installation tool No. J-22874-5 into front bearing hole as shown in Fig. 3. Ensure that 1st speed gear thrust washer is in position.
4. Install new snap ring (218) onto mainshaft rear bearing (224), then using bearing installation tool No. J-22874-1, Fig. 3, drive in bearing until snap ring is flush with case. Remove tool No. J-22874-5.
5. Install 4th speed blocker ring (204). Ensure the notches align with synchronizer keys and that main drive gear pilot bushings are in position.
6. Install main drive gear assembly (201). Ensure that drive gear notch faces down. It may be necessary to tap on outer bearing race to install assembly.
7. Install bearing retainer (202) and a new gasket.
8. Support front of countergear, then install new snap ring (225) onto countergear rear bearing (228).
9. Using drift. Drive bearing onto countershaft until snap ring is flush with case.
10. Install new bearing retainer snap ring (226).
11. Install countergear front bearing (237), then countergear front cover (238) and new gasket.
12. Install speedometer gear (219).
13. Install yoke.
14. Install flange nut (221).
15. Position transmission gears and shift rods in neutral position. Partially engage the reverse idler gear with countergear and move the reverse shift fork an equal distance in shift fork cover.
16. Position cover over transmission case and lower cover with reverse shift fork entering case first. Ensure that 1-2 and 3-4 shift forks engage with synchronizer collars.
17. Install shift cover attaching bolts (267).
