Fuel Tank Purging
REMOVE- Fuel. Refer to FUEL TANK DRAINING
- Fuel tank from the vehicle. Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY
- Fuel gauge sending and pump unit.
- Remove all remaining fuel in fuel tank.
INSPECT
Fuel tank for any remaining fuel.
PURGE
- Install tap water into the tank,
- Move the tank to the flushing area (wash rack).
- Agitate the water vigorously, and then, drain it.
- Introduce a gasoline emulsifying agent, such as Product-Sol No. 913, or equivalent.
- Add water to the fuel tank.
- Refer to the emulsifying agent specifications for the mix ratio.
- Agitate the mixture for ten minutes.
- Drain the tank completely.
- Fill the tank with water, until it over flows.
- Completely flush out any remaining mixture.
- Drain the fuel tank.
- Use an explosion meter (if available) to check the tank for a negative reading.
- Perform the required service work.
- Repair the fuel tank.
INSTALL
- Fuel gauge sending and pump unit.
- Fuel tank back into vehicle.
