Lack of Power/Sluggish/Spongy/Stumble

Definition
Engine delivers less than expected power. Little or no increase in speed, when accelerator pedal is pushed down part way.

POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION

Contaminated fuel Check Water or excessive alcohol in fuel.
Replace Drain fuel tank and add clean fuel



Lead contamination Check Missing/modified fill pipe restrictor
of catalytic converter refer to FILL PIPE RESTRICTOR/ DIAGNOSIS
TESTING AND INSPECTION PROCEDURES
in EMISSION CONTROL DEVICES
Replace Catalytic converter (if contaminated)



Low fuel pressure Check - Fuel pressure.
- Fuel filter restriction



Pinched/collapsed fuel hose/line Repair/replace As required refer to
FUEL SUPPLY/ RETURN OR EMISSION PIPES/
COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR
in FUEL SUPPLY AND AIR INDUCTION


Throttle valve not fully opening Check - Accelerator pedal travel
(Floor mat/ carpet interference)
- Throttle cable adjustment



Dirty air filter Clean/replace As required




Inoperative fuel injector(s) Check Injector(s).
Perform: - Injector driver circuit test.SEE
- Injector balance test.SEE
