Assemble

1. Lubricate new inner seal and outer seal with Dexron III transmission fluid. Lubricate seal grooves with Transjel J-36850 or equivalent.

2. Install seals on piston with lips facing down towards housing.

3. Lubricate center housing seal and groove, then install onto forward clutch housing with lip facing up.




4. Install seal protector tool No. J-21362 or equivalent over clutch hub, per figure.

5. Place piston inside seal protector tool No. J-38732 or equivalent and insert assembly into housing, rotating slightly until seated.




6. Install retainer and spring assembly with spring compressor Tool No.
J-23327 or equivalent, then install snap ring.

7. Install dished clutch plate with inside dish down.

8. Install clutch plates alternately, starting with steel plate first.

9. Install direct clutch hub in forward clutch housing, then install snap ring.

10. Install forward clutch assembly onto turbine shaft.




11. Measure piston travel with dial indicator tool No. J-8001 or equivalent by applying air to forward clutch passage, per figure.





12. Piston travel should be 0.121 - 0.186 inch, per figure.

13. Remove dial indicator, snap ring and hub.

14. Install bronze thrust washer on inside of hub. Retain with Transjel J-36850 or equivalent.

15. Install thrust washer on outside of forward clutch hub.

16. Install forward clutch hub into clutch housing.
