This model is a fully automatic rear wheel drive electronically controlled transmission, Fig. 1. Its major components consist of a 3-element torque converter, including a [1][2]torque converter clutch and dual stators, three planetary gear sets and five multiple disc type clutches. Oil pressure is from a gear type oil pump and regulated by a force motor solenoid. Shift points and torque converter clutch apply and release are controlled electronically through an electronic control unit.
