Built Prior to the VIN Breakpoints:

This bulletin is being revised to change the part number for the S/T wiper blade (LH) and add S/T wiper blade (RH). Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 56-82-04 (Section 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical).

Condition

Some customers may comment that their windshield wiper chatters or squeaks as the blade moves across the windshield surface.

Cause

The windshield glass or wiper blades may become contaminated with dirt, road grime, car wax, etc. The wiper arm may be exerting an insufficient amount of pressure on the windshield glass, or the wipe angle of the blade to the glass may be inadequate.

Correction

Clean the windshield glass with glass cleaner (P/N 1050427) or equivalent.

Important:
The glass is clean when rinse water does not "bead-up", but "sheets" across the entire glass surface. Multiple cleanings may be required to remove all contaminants.

Then replace the respective wiper arms and blade assemblies with new part numbers listed in the corresponding service procedure.

C/K and Topkick/Kodiak Service Procedure

Important:
The new wiper arms are significantly different in appearance than the former arms. For this reason they should be initially installed as a set and NOT replaced individually.

1. Remove the driver's side and passenger's side wiper arms according to Section 8E1 of the Service Manual (Wiper Arm Assembly Replacement).

2. Install the redesigned wiper arms with the enhanced wipe angle according to Section 8E1 of the Service Manual (Wiper Arm Assembly Replacement). (Driver's side P/N: 22144823; Passenger's side P/N: 22144822)

Notice:
Mid-way up the back of the arm will be a letter D (driver) or a letter P (passenger). Make sure that the arms are installed on the correct side. Incorrect installation will cause an improper wipe angle.

3. Install the redesigned wiper blades according to Section 8E1 of the Service Manual (Wiper Blade Assembly Replacement - P/N: 22154886). The redesigned wiper blades have a shepherd's hook attachment and 6 contact points compared with 4 contact points and a pin attachment on the former blades.

S/T Service Procedure

1. Remove the driver's side wiper arm according to the procedure listed in Section 8E1 of the Service Manual (Wiper Arm Assembly Replacement).

2. Install the redesigned driver's side wiper arm (P/N: 15723135) according to Section 8E1 of the Service Manual (Wiper Arm Assembly Replacement). This redesigned arm has an enhanced wipe angle.

3. Install the redesigned driver's side wiper blade (P/N: 15731161) according to Section 8E1 of the Service Manual (Wiper Blade Assembly Replacement). This redesigned blade has 8 contact points for more uniform contact pressure.

Notice:
The driver's side arm and blade will NOT correct a chatter/squeak on the passenger's side due to differing wipe angles.
